Similarly, the state government has established the world’s first Folk University at Gotagodi, Shiggavi Taluk, Haveri District, to preserve and enhance these art, culture and knowledge heritages. Haveri district was originally the home of artists. A place for artists who worked hard for the revival of Dodata art. It is in this district that there is a theater village ‘Sheshagiri’ which is working hard to keep theater alive. It is also home to Antarvalli and Yaregpu, where Sutra puppetry has been kept alive since ancient times. It is special that a folk university has come into existence in this region with such a rich artistic heritage.
Folk University’s central campus is surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings and is an ideal destination for higher education. 36 km from Haveri town which is the district headquarters. And 6 km from the taluk center Shiggavi. This university is functioning at a place called “Gotagodi” on National Highway-4.
